Birkenstock

Johann Adam Birkenstock began making shoes in 1774, in the small German village of Langenberg. Birkenstock is registered in the church archives there as ‘subject and shoemaker’. In 1947 ‘Birkenstock’s Podiatry’ was published. It became the most widely read and published book on foot- health of its time.

Birkenstocks are great for your feet.  Each contour in a Birkenstock foot bed is precisely placed to stretch, flex and move naturally.

1. Deep Heel Cup
Gives the foot a firm hold and maintains the heel profile.

2. Cork Latex Footbed
Extremely flexible. Providing a uniquely high level of wearing comfort.

3. Suede leather cover
Creates a healthy climate around the foot.

4. Cross support from the arch
Helps shift pressure from the middle to the front of the foot.

5. Toe gripper
Steers the toes. Promoting the natural rolling movement of the foot.

6. Footbed Edging
Deliberately elevated to protect the toes.

Children with mild  podiatry issues can often wear Birkenstocks due to the high level of support which mimics the support given by orthotic insoles.

The sandals come in many designs and colours and fit the bill all round – they look great, are extremely durable and offer excellent support to growing (and fully grown!) feet.
